Prairie Gardens
A walking path loops around and a rock with a plaque details the significance of the garden. A unique statue of an eagle's head forms from twisted metal rods sits near. In the summer, the garden plot is filled with flowers and plants. Milkweed is one of those plants and many monarch butterflies have emerged.
On the plaque: “Youngquist Prairie Garden: A living tribute to Bernie and Bernice Youngquist, the prairie plants displayed here are typical of the original vegetation of the Red River Valley. Dr. Youngquist served as the last superintendent of the Northwest School of Agriculture, forerunner of the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He was a champion of natural history conservation and research. The Golden Eagle Sculpture was designed by native American artist, Bennett Brien. The sculpture symbolizes the spiritual connection between this majestic bird, Plains Indians, and the prairie landscape."
