Gary Ernest Smith Paintings
Gary Ernest Smith was born on a cattle ranch in Oregon, and taught at a university while acting as gallery director of their art collection. He served for two years as an illustrator in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and has been a self-employed full-time artist since 1972. Smith's subject matter has evolved with focuses on the figurative and domestic, the hand of man on the landscape, and the simple beauty of landscape in the rural West. His work has been collected by museums and art collectors internationally.
The Smith paintings were donated to U of M Crookston by Mary Jo Eastes, a 2009 Outstanding Alumni recipient and 2015 Torch and Shield Award recipient. Eastes and her husband, Rick, reside in Visalia, Calif. and are avid art collectors.
