Are there costs to use Health Services?
Health Services is supported exclusively through student fees. The examinations, assessment, and treatment performed by the registered nurse are free of charge. Samples of over-the-counter medications and supplies are also free. Medical providers that come to campus are available free of charge. If a referral is made to a healthcare professional; off campus, that cost, as well as x-ray, laboratory, emergency room and prescription costs are the student’s responsibility and/or their insurance provider (see Local Agencies tab).
Who is eligible for services?
All students who are enrolled in six (6) or more credits per semester that count toward the automatic assessment of the Student Services Fee, are eligible for services at UMC Student Health.
What services does UMC Student Health provide?
- Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses
- Assist in referrals and appointments to the appropriate health care provider
- Health guidance and counseling
- Sexual Health and Family Planning counseling
- Pregnancy testing- Free
- Sexually transmitted disease testing and referral for HIV/AIDS testing
- Over-the-counter medications and supplies available - Free
- Immunization review
- Health education resources
- Health programs to residential life
Confidentiality: Medical records are confidential. No information is released to other UMC offices, to parents, or to anyone else without permission or a court order.
Medical Provider Services
Natalie Royal and Forrest LaPorte, certified Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP-C) from Riverview Health Association will be on campus Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm while school is in session Sept-May, providing free consultation services to UMC Students. Students should for an appointment with a provider. Students that are seen on campus by these medical providers, will not be billed. However, if the student is referred for lab work, x-rays, prescriptions and/or further evaluation, the student is financially responsible.

Sexual Health Providers - STI Testing & Birth Control Options
Jami Matthews Nurse Practitioner (NP), from Polk County Public Health will be providing sexual health services to students on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of every month from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Mental Health Provider Services
Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Murphy PMHNP-BC, from Alluma (formerly Northwestern Mental Health Center) will be on campus the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month from 8:00am - 12:00pm. while school is in session Sept-May, providing free consultation services to UMC Students. Students that are seen on campus by a Alluma provider, will not be billed. However, if the student is referred for lab work, prescriptions and/or further evaluation, the student is financially responsible.
