Bring Sports Alive

Explore the landscape of sport media and communication through contemporary and established approaches to the field. Working closely with your professors and peers, you will use multimedia to develop your story. Athletes and non-athletes alike can bring sports alive through communication.

Sport Media & Communication is a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.

Sport Media and Communication Major

The sport media and communication degree prepares students for careers in the sports industry through the study of communication, social media, media writing, and multimedia management. Courses in the major provide an overview of the landscape of sports media and communication, including established and contemporary approaches in the profession. Course content includes interviewing, editing, audio production, multimedia production, mobile technology, ethics, storytelling, public relations, sports marketing, and promotional strategies – including methods for analyzing and presenting data. Through your internship and student works opportunities, you will gain practical, real-world experience in the field.

After completing the program, graduates will:

  • Apply professional presentation skills in the development of visual, verbal, and written content
  • Employ appropriate technology for the purpose and audience within the context of the sport media and communication field
  • Apply established and contemporary media strategies
  • Demonstrate an understanding of public relations and/or marketing communication strategies as they relate to the sport media and communication field

The minor in Sport Media and Communication complements majors across the curriculum.
