Coaching - Minor On-Campus

Be a step ahead with a coaching minor

Whether you’re a strong leader, a great teacher, or a skilled athlete, you have the ability to empower others through coaching. Minnesota hasn’t required a teaching or coaching license to coach high school athletics since 1997, so having this minor under your belt will put you a step above the rest. The coaching minor can prepare coaches for youth, elementary, high school, college, or even professional levels of athletics. It offers training and development in both practice planning and coaching strategies in your sport of interest.

The coaching minor develops future coaches by teaching current theories and practices in coaching and with practical experience through the coaching practicum. This helps to prepare students for coaching at all levels of athletics, from youth to professional.

This program helps train and develop future coaches in their sport of interest. In addition, it gives those students interested in coaching more marketability for coaching positions. Any student, regardless of major, can earn a coaching minor.
