What is verification?
The US Department of Education and/or U of M Crookston may select students for a process called Verification. This process verifies the information you reported on your FAFSA is correct. The selection of applications is accomplished primarily through a series of edit checks that are designed to identify applications with the greatest likelihood for error. Most selection is at random.
If you’re selected, you may be asked to verify:
- income
- federal income tax paid
- household size
- independent student status
- number of family members enrolled in post-secondary education
- untaxed income and benefits received
You may be required to provide copies of other applicable information and/or forms as requested by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
