Christopher Ingraham, a data reporter from the Washington Post, will be speaking at the University of Minnesota Crookston om Thursday, February 6, at 12:30 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. There is no admission charge and the public is welcome to attend.
Ingraham previously worked at the Brookings Institution and the Pew Research Center. In 2015, Ingraham wrote an article drawn from government data about all the counties in the United States. In that article, in what he describes as a throw-away line, he called Minnesota’s Red Lake County, “the absolute worst place to live in America.”
The push-back from that statement from community members as well as state politicians led to an invitation to him to visit the area. Liking what he saw and considering the quality of life issues he was experiencing in his Baltimore, Maryland home, he moved his family to Red Lake Falls where he now lives.
Ingraham’s story has been widely publicized in local and national media and is the subject of his recently published book, “If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home By Now.” Ingraham will be sharing about his story and book and about his career as a reporter.
