The University of Minnesota Crookston will be hosting an Art & Garden Tour of the campus on Thursday, August 29 from 4:30-7 p.m. with guided and self-guided tours available of the newly chronicled art and gardens. The event includes a gathering in the renewed Allen and Freda Pedersen Garden, live music by the Crookston Community Jazz Band, hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and a commemorative gift.

Tickets are available online at z.umn.edu/artandgardentour for $25 in advance or $30 at the door for ages 21 and up. Tickets for guests under the age of 21 are $10. For more information, contact Michelle Christopherson at mchristo@umn.edu.

An initiative of Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause, the art on campus has now been documented and marked with proper signage that includes information about each piece or series and artist if applicable.

“We have so many beautiful spaces on our campus and the art we have inside and outside of our buildings deserves to be shared and showcased,” Holz-Clause explained. “Now, visitors are able to learn more about our sculptures, statues, paintings, and displays. Where we have documented history, we explain the ‘why’ and ‘how’ they were created.”

“Our gardens, while beautiful and serene, are also an outcome of our educational programming,” she added. “Students are actively involved in propagating and cultivating the flowers displayed. Our grounds crew takes immense pride in creating a special place for the community to come and enjoy.”

The new art and gardens site, z.umn.edu/campus-art-and-gardens, draws attention to each area on campus where art can be found and the gardens located throughout. There are over 50 documented displays or series to learn about. A self-guided art tour brochure will be available starting at the August 29 event.
