Seasons Greetings from the University of Minnesota Crookston. We’re rounding the corner to the end of fall semester and the year, and our students are in full study mode preparing for finals.
I’m happy to announce that our fall enrollment numbers came in at an increase of 11 percent over Fall 2022! Our improved recruitment efforts have received positive attention and we’ve also improved retention, largely due to the hard work by our faculty and staff and welcoming campus culture. We’re also proud to be the lone campus in the University of Minnesota system to show positive enrollment growth this Fall.
I hope you’ve enjoyed our recent campus events such as the presentation by acclaimed author and autism speaker Temple Grandin, Celebrate Crookston Game Night, Veteran’s Day program in collaboration with the Crookston Veterans Council, Trunk or Treat event and Hoops on Halloween youth basketball tournament, Homecoming 2023, pop-up sales at The Nest on Broadway downtown in the Fournet Building, and our many home athletic competitions. Join us for upcoming events including Winter Wonderland at The Nest on Broadway (Nov. 30), Santa Land at The Nest on Broadway (Dec. 2), Poinsettia Sale in the Sargeant Student Center (Dec. 6-8), and home athletics. Check out our online events calendar for more information https://events.crk.umn.edu/. You can also find our events in the Community Voice app for your cell phone or tablet.
Our athletic teams are making headlines and continue with competitions into the winter season. Equestrian Western recently earned Reserve High Point Team at a meet in North Dakota and had three riders qualify for the Regional Championships; Golden Eagle Hockey has dominated at home games and are currently ranked fifth in ACHA Central Rankings; Women’s Basketball notched a win in Florida after spending the Thanksgiving holiday there and continue their best start since the 2018-19 season; Men’s Basketball have kept the crowds on their toes with close matchups and personal career highs, and they’ll take on St. Cloud State and Bemidji State this weekend; and Trap wrapped up their Fall season with second place nationally (!) under the USA College Clay Target League. Special accolades to the work put in by our Volleyball, Cross Country (Men’s and Women’s), Soccer, Golf (Men’s and Women’s), Baseball and Softball teams this Fall (and Tennis this Spring.) They made headlines with regional records, best seasons, career highs, Academic All-District team namings, and new signings for next season.
Sign up your kids and grandkids for our Golden Eagle Kids Club. There are special events and incentives for club members, and a monthly newsletter sharing upcoming events and activities. Plus, club members get to interact with their favorite Golden Eagle players and student-athletes. Contact Michelle Christopherson at mchristo@umn.edu for more information about the kids club.
Have a wonderful holiday season and hope to see you on campus soon.
