“Sustainability is not just a word but a core priority for the University of Minnesota.” - former President Joan T.A. Gabel
Through MPact 2025, a systemwide strategic plan to reduce the U of M System’s carbon footprint, the University of Minnesota Crookston campus is committed to holding sustainability as a core priority. These efforts continue with the recent hiring of Gabi Ostgaard, a Crookston native who is currently pursuing an online degree in environmental science. Ostgaard will be serving as a GreenCorps Member in the Office of Sustainability, which is funded by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Ostgaard brings her expertise to campus where she will primarily be focusing on waste reduction, including a composting initiative in Brown Dining Hall.
“I look forward to working here this next year and I am excited to embark on this new journey,” she says.
Having lived in Crookston her whole life, Ostgaard knows the town very well. In her free time, Ostgaard enjoys connecting with the local environment through hiking, camping, and simply enjoying nature. She also enjoys spending time with her four pets and fiancé.
With the addition of Ostgaard to the Office of Sustainability of campus, the University of Minnesota Crookston has taken another step towards our Climate Action Plan to achieve climate neutrality by the year 2050.
