Happy March from the University of Minnesota Crookston! We’ve finished our winter sports season and are delving head-first into the spring season. Our student-athletes work hard in the classroom and in their sports and activities. You might have noticed that some of our teams have been traveling to other (warmer) states for competitions. They put in the work to get there. They raise money to travel by working in groups at event venues in the region doing clean-up, security, or at concessions stands, they set up team shops on BSN Sports for their family and friends to purchase Golden Eagle sports apparel, and they have crowdfunding pages where people can make donations. I invite you to check out our athletics events calendar and attend games and competitions as you are able.

Another student group that is currently raising money to travel to an upcoming competition is NACTA - North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. They are headed to Modesto, California April 12-15 and are trying to raise funds through various efforts to make sure their entire team can attend. The team needs to raise $20,000 for travel and competition registration. Students have been hosting weekly car washes on campus and there’s still time to sign up - email Ben Olander at oland064@crk.umn.edu. They also have a donation page that’s open to contributions. NACTA competitions have been held all over the country since the 1950s and UMN Crookston students have accounted for numerous awards and their reputation. The team appreciates your support.

Community engagement is always on our mind and we brought a number of stakeholders from the community to campus last week, and will have another gathering next week. At the luncheon, UMN Crookston provided updates from some of our programs like CREST (Center for Rural Education in Science and Technology) and NXT Gen Ag, and we heard from the school district, city, county, public health, and others on what new things they’re working on. The group also discussed projects and initiatives that both the campus and community can collaborate on. UMN Crookston looks forward to the positive outcomes that will come from those collaborations.

We have a number of events coming up that you are invited to attend like the Midwest Murder Podcast LIVE on March 23 at 7 p.m. in Bede Ballroom, Caleb Mendez Solo Piano Recital on March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium, International Dinner on March 27 at 6 p.m. in Bede Ballroom, and Open Ride Night on March 26 from 3-6 p.m. at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) in the Charles H.
