We have officially started our 2023-2024 school year at the University of Minnesota Crookston and we couldn’t be more excited to see the friendly faces of our new and returning students. Welcome Weekend was a fun event ahead of the start of classes on Tuesday, August 29. Part of our student population this fall includes 250 student-athletes who play for one or more of our NCAA or club sports teams.
This month we were proud to be a part of the Crookston community’s annual festival, Ox Cart Days. In fact, UMN Crookston and Maroon and Gold were this year’s theme to celebrate our 30 years as a baccalaureate institution. As Chancellor, I was grateful to be chosen as the Torchlight Parade’s Grand Marshal and we had great campus representation walking or riding along for that event. Community celebrations such as this one helps our campus and the community bond together and spend time having fun.
Speaking of fun, we have our fall sports schedule out plus many fall semester events to look forward to and we hope you will join us. To name a few, we have tailgates for soccer and volleyball, bookstore pop-up sales at our new space downtown called The Nest on Broadway, and Homecoming 2023 October 16-22. Watch our events calendar online for details and find other events you might be interested in.
Lastly, I hope you find time to interact with our students, faculty, and staff either on campus or out in the community. We’re always eager to make connections, share our stories, and find new ways for our campus to partner on projects, events, and initiatives. Let’s lean on each other and make this our best year yet.
