Mary Holz-Clause is chancellor at the University of Minnesota, Crookston and tenured professor in agriculture business. She began that role in 2017.   Her areas of study and expertise are value added agriculture, community and economic development and entrepreneurship. Prior to the position in Minnesota, she was dean of agriculture at Cal Poly Pomona, from 2014-2017.  She also served as the first Vice President for Economic Development at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she provided leadership for existing and new economic growth initiatives in the state. From 2006-2011 Holz-Clause served as  the Associate Vice President for Extension and Outreach and Director of Global Programs at Iowa State University (ISU),  She also was Founder and Manager of the virtual Agricultural Marketing Resource Center (AgMRC), established in 2002.  AgMRC is a multi-university consortium of value added ideas and knowledge gathered online to supply critical production, technology and business development.

She received a B.S. degree in agricultural business, a Masters of Public Administration and a Ph.D. in agriculture education and technology transfer, all from ISU.

Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause has agreed to assume the role of Acting Executive Chancellor for the University of Minnesota Crookston and Morris campuses for a two-year term to support Acting Chancellor Janet Ericksen of Morris starting this summer.
