UMC SIFE team takes home honors in regional competition
On Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the "Duel on the River" competition in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the UMC SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) team won the third place trophy and $1,500 in prize money. The "Duel on the River" is a regional competition where several teams compete for cash prizes by analyzing a personal finance case. Teams work approximately 36 hours preparing their case and then present findings and recommendations to a panel of judges.
Members of the UMC SIFE team who competed at the Duel event were Tiffany Anderson, SIFE Co-President, from Grand Rapids, MN; Sylvia Fitzsimmons from Crookston, MN; Justin Petrich from Dilworth, MN; and Vonna Tweed from Reynolds, ND. Dave Crawford and Kenneth Johnson, SIFE advisors, were present as well. Although Crawford and Johnson helped the team prepare prior to the competition, once teams received the case all advisors were prohibited from communicating with their team members.
The winning team and host team of each regional competition advance to the University of Arizona "Duel in the Desert" national competition March 2-5, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
