The University of Minnesota Crookston will host its first-ever Regal’s Run 5K Run/Walk on April 26 to raise funds for the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship. This event is being organized by U of M Crookston’s Project Management class as a way to bring the community together for a meaningful cause.
The event will take place, rain or shine, with the 5K Run/Walk beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Children’s Fun Run. A virtual 5K is also an option. Race day registration is now open at raceroster.com/events/2025/102841/regals-run. Entry fees are $34+ (including taxes and fees) for the Regal’s Run and virtual 5K, and $12+ for the Children’s Fun Run.
This fundraising event honors the lives of Camden (age 9) and Maxwell (age 19 months), sons of U of M Crookston alumni, who were tragically killed in a car accident on March 25, 2018. The young boys touched the hearts of many in their short time.
“We ensure that their legacy lives on through this scholarship, helping future U of M Crookston students who embody the same kindness and generosity they did,” said Megan Pederson, U of M Crookston Project Management class instructor. “Donations will directly benefit the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship allowing their spirit of goodwill to continue inspiring others.”
U of M Crookston students in the class have previously raised funds for the scholarship with various events and the scholarship has less than $5,000 to go to complete its endowment. An endowed scholarship is designed to provide ongoing support and extend the impact of the donor’s generosity beyond a lifetime. The principal is invested and investment earnings are made available each year to support the scholarship’s purpose.
“We hope you will help secure this endowment, give students an awesome hands-on learning experience, and support a worthwhile cause,” added Project Management student Bailey Schaefer.
Regal’s Run sponsorship opportunities and donations for giveaway items are still available with the Project Management students currently soliciting donations and sponsorships, as well as ‘race-day swag’ for the runners. If you or your organization are interested in donating or participating, please reach out to Megan Pederson at [email protected]. Sponsors will receive recognition through a variety of advertising based on their donation level, including, but not limited to, event signage, ads on the Community Voice app, and on the official event website.
All donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds from the event will go directly to the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship endowment.
