Greetings from the University of Minnesota Crookston!

Thanks to all of you who came to campus last week for Night to Unite - the celebration of communities and law enforcement. Wow! Night to Unite is certainly a testament to the strong partnership between the community and university. Thanks to the Night to Unite planning committee members: James Brandon, Carrie Bergquist, Dawn Brusoe, Michelle Christopherson, Nell DeBoer, Fire Chief Tim Froeber, Shane Heldstab, Cathy LaJesse, Crookston Police Officer Don Rasicot, Police Chief Darin Selzler, and Connie Wilkins.

Our campus has been buzzing these last few weeks from youth science camps, day visits, garden tours, and, of course, prospective student visits. This week, we are hosting more than 140 Minnesota high school FFA leaders for their annual conference and a Robotics youth camp. Welcome to all guests, and thanks to all who are involved.

The University of Minnesota Crookston is also excited to announce two new partnerships with Huntington Bank and Guild. Huntington Bank has listed UMN Crookston as a preferred online education provider for bank employees through their tuition discount initiative. Guild, a Career Opportunity Platform, will help increase access to in-demand degrees and certificates for working adults across the country with UMN Crookston as a preferred provider for the Guild/Target Corporation partnership. Students from both Huntington and Guild will be starting our online programs this fall.

Our efforts continue with engagement and outreach of community and campus activities. Consider attending an athletic event or other events this fall. We have been giving away single Golden Eagle game passes, first at Night to Unite and will be distributing them during the Ox Cart Days Torchlight Parade. Bring your family and join us for free. Golden Eagle Soccer hosts an exhibition game next Tuesday, August 16 against Jamestown University at 1 p.m. and Golden Eagle Volleyball takes on Minot State University September 16. If you need free game passes, contact Michelle Christopherson mchristo@umn.edu and she can get you set up.

Our Golden Eagle Pride group has many events and tailgates coming up. The Ox Cart Days Ice Cream Social is set for Wednesday, August 17 from 3-5 p.m. near the Harris A. Peterson Gazebo. Crookston’s very own Blake Bergeron, UMN Crookston Finance Generalist, will be competing in the Ox Cart Days pizza eating contest Saturday, August 20 at noon, at the Downtown Square. Come out and cheer him on, and don’t forget to wear your maroon and gold. Maroon and Gold Fridays resume September 9. For more information on all that is going on go to events.crk.umn.edu or check out goldeneaglesports.com for all of our athletic events.

Schedules are busy, summer is waning and classes will resume August 29. Stop out and visit us!
