Processional “Pomp and Circumstance” by Edward Elgar U of M Crookston Community Band

The processional is led by the Mace-Bearer, William Peterson. The procession includes
Faculty Marshal W. Daniel Svedarsky, Ph.D., the faculty, staff, candidates for degrees, and platform guests.

About this year's commencement speaker

David G. Ekman

Entrepreneur David G. Ekman, a 1981 graduate in agricultural business, grew up in Argyle, Minn., and has more than 30 years of business experience. During his time on campus, he played college basketball, served as student senate president, and was named 1981 Man of the Year. Ekman started in the computer business by purchasing a ComputerLand franchise at the age of 20. His business acumen led him to a series of business ventures including a technology company, an internet service provider, a travel agency, hotel development and investment, a self-storage business, and various real estate projects. He recently retired as the CIO of Multiband Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed field services company with more than 3,000 employees which he helped start.

Commencement Photographs

Commencement Photographs

The University of Minnesota Crookston has contacted a studio to take photographs of graduates at UMC's Commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Posed photos will be taken from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Bede Ballroom A and B, Sargeant Student Center.

The photographer can take posed photos before the ceremony of the graduate, and the graduate with family and/or friends. There is no charge, or sitting fee, to take the posed photo. Your only charge is when photos are ordered. The only thing the photographer needs is your name to take the photo. There is NO obligation to order any photos.

Information sheets and sample photos will be available for viewing in the UMC Bookstore located in the Sargeant Student Center.

About a week after graduation, photo previews will be available for viewing through the photographer's website at: You order photos directly from the photographer's studio. Any graduate, parent or relative can go on the site to view proofs and place an order. Image Photography has many different portrait products you may order from their site.

Requesting Accommodations Related to a Disability

If you have family members attending the May 9, 2015 ceremony who use wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, canes, or cannot climb bleacher stairs, you are encouraged to arrange for accessible floor seating. A graduate may request to have up to THREE seats reserved for family members, but if you don’t need them, please leave them for others who do.

Reserved seating will be opened at 1:00 and held until 1:45 at which time persons without tickets may be seated in the area.

To request reserved seating, email your name (graduate), the number of reserved seats needed, and a campus or home address where tickets can be sent to Gail Myers at or 218-281-8587 by April 18.

Tickets for reserved seating will be sent out to the campus or specified address on or before May 5.
