Recommended Timeline for Admission to UMC
UMC has rolling admission. However, we strongly encourage students to follow the suggested guidelines so that we may best accommodate you.
Applying for Fall Admission
*Application materials postmarked on or prior to deadline will be accepted.
September – December Apply for priority admission
October – February Apply for Specialty Scholarships (Due March 1st)
October - Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
November - Housing contract available and submit room reservation fee, priority first come first serve.
January & March- Attend Golden Eagle Admit Day
May 1st - Confirm your enrollment
June- July - Attend Orientation & Class Registration Days
July – August Approve Financial Aid award package by August 1
August Attend Orientation & Move in!
Applying for Spring Admission
July – December Apply for Admission
Ongoing Register for Orientation and spring classes, submit Registration fee
*Academic Scholarships, Specialty Scholarships, Federal Financial Aid funding, and Housing may not be available for spring admits. We will work to accommodate your needs to the best of our ability.
Detailed Admissions Timeline
September - July
Apply for admission! Academic scholarship funding is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis determined by the application for admission. Scholarship availability will depend on funds available for students who apply for admission after February 1.
October-July
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). While the federal government does not announce an official deadline, some federal financial aid programs, including grants, have limited funding and are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Also, completing the FAFSA by December 14 will assure students receive a financial aid award packet estimate by the end of December.
December - July
Admitted student packets include information regarding living on campus. Using the student ID from the acceptance letter, students are able to print the housing contract from the website provided on the Residence Life materials in the acceptance packet. The housing contract must be signed and completed correctly, and accompanied by a $50 non-refundable application/reservation fee then mailed to:

March 1
Apply for Specialty Scholarships before March 1st. Students must be admitted before they are eligible to apply.
February - July
Financial aid award packets are sent to students. Students must approve award packages; instructions will be included with award packets. For questions concerning Financial Aid, please call 218-281-8569 or e-mail umc-fa@umn.edu.
April - August
A registration packet will be sent to admitted students beginning in April. At that time, students will choose a registration date and be guided through the process to register for fall classes. Registration dates will be in the packet that will be mailed in early March, students will be asked to denote their top choices for registration dates.
Please note that dates do fill and students are encouraged to return the form as soon as possible after receiving it.

August
Attend orientation and move into the residence halls! Move in day for Fall semester is the Friday before school begins (late August). New Student Orientation will continue through that following Monday and classes will begin on Tuesday.
