The University of Minnesota Crookston, Crookston Area Chamber of Commerce, and Veden Center are hosting a “Build Your Brand” event for small businesses January 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Irishman’s Shanty. UMN Crookston marketing lecturer Courtney Bergman will lead the session.

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Department of Employment and Economic Development announced that the University of Minnesota Crookston’s Veden Center for Rural Economic Development is a recipient of the Small Business Partnership Grant Program.

Griffin Gillespie has been hired as the new Director of Human Resources at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Gillespie, a native of Park River and resident of Grand Forks, spent his last five years at Altru Health System as the Supervisor of Recruitment/Talent Specialist/Provider Recruiter.

The University of Minnesota Crookston greenhouse grew 1,845 starter plants for White Earth Tribal and Community College (WETCC), Community Extension Service for their community garden program. The program serves more than 30 multi-generational families and the community at large on White Earth Nation. Bob Shimek of WETCC picked up the starter plant

The Veden Center for Rural and Economic Development at the University of Minnesota Crookston is offering a free online class and technical assistance to Latino entrepreneurs and businesses through the Mano Amiga program.

Last week, the University of Minnesota Crookston, received a $100,000, one-year grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) agency to fund the Mano Amiga program of the Veden Center for Rural Economic Development.

Teresa Spaeth recently joined the University of Minnesota Crookston as the Veden Chair of Rural Economic Development/Director of Strategic initiatives. Previously, Spaeth held executive director positions at the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa.
